Government Programs & Private Investors
Welcome. This is your starting point. Below are brief descriptions of current programs offered through the federal, state and local government organizations to assist people in avoiding foreclosure or short sales and refinancing into more affordable loan programs.
There has been a lot of national hype regarding the government program called "Hope Now" and it's expansion under FHA called "Project Lifeline" where a group of lenders and others in the mortgage business formed an alliance to help out distressed home owners in danger of loosing their homes to foreclosure. My research would suggest you are better off going directly to as local an organization as you can find that will act as an advocate for you and cut through the beauracracy.
Start here: This is the State of Washington's website for helping those in danger of foreclosure and those who need mortagage assistance in general. You next best if not the best group to advocate on your behalf is the ACORN Housing Corporation specifically set up to assist homeowners regarding difficult or unaffordable mortgages. In some cases you can retain your low introductory rate for a fixed mortgage term. These guys are great. Go here then find their Northwest office in Seattle or Portland.
Lastly if you are in Kitsap County the local housing authority is a wealth of information regarding owning, buying, financing, foreclosures, go here. All Counties in Washington State have some equivalent.
Bottom line is this. There are resources to help you avoid foreclosure and keep your home. There are resources to help you afford to own your own home. To a great degree it is your responsibility but there are those of us like Salmon Capital that feel we can help you wade through the process so call us, you'll be glad you did. BR
